Full step-by-step

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open the Mail app and open our email.
  2. Tap the sender name or email address in the header.
  3. Tap Add to VIP. This adds us to your VIP mailbox so our messages are easy to find.
  4. Optional alerts: in Mailboxes, tap the  next to VIP → VIP Alerts to choose banner, sound, and lock screen options. (Apple Support)

Mac

  1. Open Mail and select our message.
  2. In the message header, move the pointer near our name and click the star that appears, or click the arrow and choose Add to VIPs.
  3. VIP mailbox appears in the sidebar. You can filter to VIPs any time. (Apple Support)

Optional but helpful

  • Add us to Contacts: on iPhone or iPad, tap our address in the email header → Add to Contacts. On Mac, click our name → Add to Contacts.
  • VIP on iCloud.com: you can also mark us VIP in Mail on iCloud.com if you use it. (Apple Support)

Keep our emails out of Junk

If one of our emails landed in Junk

  • iPhone/iPad: open the email in Junk, tap the folder icon, move it to Inbox.
  • Mac: open the email in Junk, click Not Junk or move it to Inbox.

Create a simple rule on Mac

Use a Mail rule to make our messages stand out.

  1. Mail → Settings → Rules → Add Rule.
  2. If From contains your@sender.com → perform actions such as Move message to InboxMark as VIPFlag, or Play sound.
Rules apply when Mail is open. Use sparingly since VIP plus Contacts is usually enough. (Apple Support)

Troubleshooting

  • Do not see the VIP mailbox
In the Mailboxes list, tap Edit and make sure VIP is enabled on iPhone or iPad. On Mac, the VIP mailbox appears after you add your first VIP. (Apple Support)
  • VIP Alerts not firing on iPhone/iPad
Check Settings → Notifications → Mail → VIP and confirm alerts are allowed. You can also toggle VIP Alerts from the Mailboxes screen via the  next to VIP. (Apple Support)
  • Still missing emails
Add us to Contacts, mark any stray messages Not Junk, and create a Mac rule as above. VIP plus Contacts plus one rule usually fixes it. (Apple Support)

Suggested blurb you can drop into onboarding emails

Apple Mail users
iPhone or iPad: open our email → tap our name at the top → Add to VIP.
Mac: open our email → click the star next to our name to Add to VIPs.

Verify before publishing

  • Labels like Add to VIP, the star icon, and VIP Alerts are stable, but Apple sometimes relocates controls in new iOS or macOS releases. Re-check the Apple Support steps for your current versions before posting. (Apple Support)
